JS adopts obituary reference on lawmaker Ismat Ara

SANGSAD BHABAN, Jan 21, 2020 (BSS) – The Jatiya Sangsad today unanimously adopted an obituary reference on Awami League (AL) lawmaker and former state minister for Public Administration Ismat Ara Sadique.

Speaker Shirin Sharmin Chaudhury moved the obituary reference with brief resume on Ismat Ara.

While moving the reference, the Speaker said the House expresses its deep shock at the death of lawmaker Ismat Ara, who breathed her last in the early morning of today at a city hospital in the capital at the age of 77.

Later a discussion was held on the obituary motion adopted on Ismat Ara while the lawmakers said she performed all duties vested on her honestly with sincerity and termed the former state minister as prudent and respected woman.

Leader of the House Sheikh Hasina recalled her contributions to the politics of Awami League and said though Ismat Ara was not very active in the politics but she performed her duties honestly with sincerity.

The Prime Minister prayed for eternal peace of the departed soul and conveyed deep sympathy to the bereaved family members as well as the people of Jashore-6 constituency from which Ismat Ara was elected MP for twice with AL ticket.

Treasury bench lawmakers Tofail Ahmed, Kazi Nabil Ahmed, Waseqa Ayesha Khan, AKM Sarwar Jahan, State Minister for Public Administration Farhad Hossain, State Minister for Rural Development and Co-operatives Division Swapan Bhattacharjee and Vice-Principal Abdus Shahid and Jatiya Party lawmaker Rowshan Ara Mannan took part in the discussion.

Taking part in the discussion, veteran parliamentarian Tofail Ahmed said Ismat Ara was a respected woman. She served the nation in different capacities, including as a lawmaker and state minister for public administration and women affairs, with very sincerity, he added.

The House also sought eternal peace of the departed soul and conveyed sympathy to the bereaved family members. The lawmakers also observed one-minute silence as a mark of respect to the departed soul.

Later, a munajat was offered seeking eternal peace of the departed soul. After the munajat, as convention, the Speaker adjourned the sitting of the House to show respect at the death of a current parliament member Ismat Ara Sadique.

Ismat Ara, who joined AL in 1992, was elected Member of Parliament (MP) from Jashore-6 constituency for twice in 2014 and 2018. She was made the State Minister for Public Administration in 2014.
