‘Social services ensuring inclusive development to achieve SDGs’

RANGPUR, Jan 2, 2020 (BSS) – The massive social welfare services of the government are effectively ensuring inclusive development of backward and physically challenged people on way to achieve sustainable development goals (SDGs).

Officials and politicians said this today at a post-rally discussion jointly organised by divisional and district offices of the Department of Social Services (DSS) to observe the National Social Services Day-2020 at Public Library ground in the city.

Earlier, a colourful rally with participation of officials and employees, executives of NGOs and organisations working for the welfare of physically challenged people, teachers, students, civil society members and elite was brought out on the city streets.

Divisional Commissioner KM Tariqul Islam attended the post-rally discussion as the chief guest with Divisional Director of the DSS for Rangpur division Abu Saleh Md. Musa Jongi in the chair.

Deputy Commissioner Md. Asib Ahsan, Deputy Director of the DSS Mossarraf Hossain, President of district Awami League Mamtaz Uddin Ahmed, its city unit President Shafiur Rahman Shafi and General Secretary Tushar Kanti Mandal addressed the meet as special guests.

Abu Saleh Md. Musa Jongi discussed the huge social welfare activities, including massive social net and various training programs, being implemented by the government to ensure inclusive development of all people in the society.

The speakers lauded social welfare activities being implemented by the DSS extensively contributing to cutting poverty and improving the living standard of the socially backward, poor, distressed and physically challenged people.

Mamtaz Uddin Ahmed said Bangladesh is being transformed into a social welfare state following implementation of massive social welfare activities by the present government led by Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina for inclusive development of all people.

The chief guest urged the DSS officials to ensure transparency while implementing the social service programs of the government for properly reaching benefits to the targeted people for their inclusive development to achieve the SDGs.
