CHATTOGRAM journo demand arrest of BNP leader Giasuddin by 48 hrs

CHATTOGRAM, June 6, 2018 (BSS) – Chattogram journalists at a protest
rally today demanded arrest of Giashuddin Quader Chowdhury, younger brother
of hanged war criminal and BNP leader Salauddin Quader (SQ) Chowdhury, within
48 hours for making derogatory remarks against Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina.

They also demanded withdrawal of all cases filed against Bengali daily
‘The Purbokone’.

The journalists warned that they would wage a tough movement if their
demand is not met within the stipulated time.

Held under the joint auspices of Chattogram Press Club (CPC) and
Chattogram Union of Journalists (CUJ), the rally was presided over by CUJ
president Nazimuddin Shyamol.

CPC president Kalim Sorwar, its general secretary Suklal Das, CUJ General
Secretary Hasan Ferdous, Vice president of Bangladesh Federal Union of
Journalists Sahidul Alam, Former CPC president Abu Sufian, Ali Abbas
journalists Ezaz Yousofi, Mustaque Ahmed, Reaz Haider Chowdhury and Mohammad
Ali, among others, addressed the rally .

Expressing solidarity with the demand, public representatives, leaders of
political parties and their front organisations also joined the rally held on
CPC premises.

CUJ president Nazumuddin Shyamol said the most controversial BNP leader
Giasuddin Quader Chowdhury has no rights to stay in the country for his role
during the Liberation War.

“He is trying to stop the voices of 16 crore people by filing cases
against the newspaper,” he said.

CPC President Kalim Sowar in the rally said the media should not allow
the reactionary person like Giasuddin Quader who had been making intrigue
against the newspaper as well as the state for long.

Referring to August 15, 1975 carnage, Giasuddin, one of the vice chairmen
of the BNP, reportedly told that Hasina would face a fate worse than her
father Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman.

Giasuddin made the comments at a programme at Fatikchhari on May 31.
