GAIBANDHA, DEC 13, 2019 (BSS) -National VAT Week-2019 is being
celebrated in the district as elsewhere in the country from December 10 with
a call to continue the development activities through revenue collection.
Marking the week, the Custom, excise and VAT Division of National Board
of Revenue under the Ministry of Finance has chalked out elaborate
programmes.
The National VAT Day-2019 was also celebrated in the district on
December 11 through active participation of the officials and the employees
of Custom, Excise and VAT division here.
This year’s theme of the day was “VAT Dichhe Jonogon, Desher Hochhe
Unnayan”.
In the morning, a grand rally was brought out from Gaibandha Poura Park
and ended in front of the custom office at Masterpara after parading the main
roads of the town.
The participants carried banners and placards inscribed with various
slogans regarding custom, excise and VAT.
Assistant commissioner (AC), custom, excise and VAT division, here Abdul
Hannan inaugurated the rally.
Later, a discussion on the significance of the day and the week was also
held at the hall room of Gaibandha Chamber of Commerce and Industry of the
town here with AC Abdul Hannan in the chair.
Billal Hossain, deputy commissioner, Custom, Excise and VAT division,
Nilphamari addressed the function as the chief guest and Zakir Hossain,
assistant commissioner of taxes, Gaibandha circle spoke at the event as the
special guest.
Revenue officers Mahfuzur Rahman and Jahurul Islam, and assistant
revenue officers M. Masud Rana and Rony Das Gupta also addressed the
function, among others.
Chief guest Billal Hossain in his speeches said that the country’s
revenue repository would be enriched along with increasing awareness among
the businessmen and consumers about the VAT through observing the National
VAT Day and the National VAT Week.
Other speakers in their speeches said there is no alternative to raising
the revenue collection for advancement and overall development of the country
and reaching the nation towards desired goals.
