All set to observe Begum Rokeya Day at Pairaband

RANGPUR, Dec 7, 2019 (BSS) – The district administration has completed
arrangements to observe Begum Rokeya Day-2019 with three-day programmes at
her birthplace Pairaband village in Mithapukur upazila of the district from
Monday next.

Officials of Rangpur district administration today said the observance will
begin with placing of wreaths by high officials at Begum Rokeya Smritistambha
in Pairaband village at 9 am on that day.

The inaugural day’s programmes include milad mahfil, spontaneous blood
donation, blood group tests, inauguration of three-day ‘Rokeya Fair’ followed
by discussion on life and works of Begum Rokeya Shakhawat Hossain and
cultural function.

Member of the Parliament from Rangpur-5 (Mithapukur) constituency HN
Ashiqur Rahman will attend the discussion as the chief guest while Deputy
Commissioner and President of the Rokeya Day Observance Committee Md Asib
Ahsan will preside over it.

Secretary to Bangla Academy Mohammad Anwar Hossain and Rangpur District
Council Chairman Advocate Chhafia Khanom will be addressed the discussion as
special guests where Fiction writer Anwara Syed Haque and Professor Mohammad
Shah Alam will participate as discussants.

On December 10 (Tuesday), drawing, poem recitation, essay writing and
debate competitions for the students in different categories, staging of
drama and screening of documentary films followed by cultural function will
be organised at the Pairaband village.

Vice-chancellor (VC) of Begum Rokeya University Professor Dr Nazmul Ahsan
Kalimullah will attend the discussion as the chief guest with Mithapukur
Upazila Nirbahi Officer Md Mamun Bhuiyan in the chair.

On the occasion, Police Superintendent Biplob Kumar Sarker, Additional
Deputy Commissioner (Education and ICT) Shukria Pervin, General Secretary of
district Awami League (AL) Advocate Rezaul Karim Raju will present as special
guests.

Educationist Dr Nasima Akhter will deliver keynote essay on “Contemporary
Freedom of Women and Begum Rokeya’s Thoughts” while Professor Arefina Begum
and Rafikul Islam Duala will take part as discussants.

On the concluding day on December 11 (Wednesday), Divisional Commissioner
KM Tariqul Islam will attend the discussion as the chief guest with Deputy
Commissioner Md Asib Ahsan in the chair.

Deputy Inspector General for Rangpur Range Police Devdas Bhattacharya,
President of district AL Mamtaz Uddin Ahmed and Mithapukur Upazila Chairman
Zakir Hossain Sarker will address it as special guests.

Professor of the Department of Bengali of Begum Rokeya University Dr Sorifa
Salowa Dina will present keynote paper in the discussion.

Assistant Prof of Kawnia Degree College Dr Swasswato Bhattacharya and
former Regional Director of Rangpur Kendra of Bangladesh Betar Monwara Begum
will take part as discussants on the occasion.

The chief guest will distribute prizes and medals among winners of
different competitions in the concluding ceremony to be followed by cultural
function at night on Wednesday.
