Nat.Textiles Day celebrated in Gaibandha

GAIBANDHA, Dec 04, 2019 (BSS) – National Textiles Day-2019 was celebrated
in the district as elsewhere in the country today with a call for making the
sector more prosperous and vibrant.

This year’s theme of the day was “Globalization of the Textiles Sector-
Sustainable Development”.

In observance of the day, district administration, Bangladesh Small and
Cottage Industries Corporation (BSCIC) and Gaibandha Chamber of Commerce and
Industry (GCCI) chalked out day long programmes.

A discussion meeting was held at the conference room of District
Collectorate Building here with Assistant General Manager of BSCIC Shah
Mohammad Jonayed in the chair.

Additional Deputy Commissioner (ADC)-General Alamgir Kabir Saikat addressed
the meeting as chief guest and President of GCCI Shajada Anwarul Quadir spoke
at the event as special guest

Assistant Commissioner, Shahin Delwar and journalist Sarker M.
Shahiduzzaman also spoke .

ADC(General) Alamgir Kabir Saikat in his speech said after the
independence, Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman had
nationalized the textiles and jute sectors in an attempt to make the sector
affluent.

He also termed the textiles as the largest foreign currency earning sector
of the country and said a healthy atmosphere should be ensured in this sector
for its sustainable development.

The ADC also emphasized the need for patronizing the textiles sector and
disseminating the textile education as a whole to turn the country into a
middle income one by 2021 and developed one by 2041, a vision of the Prime
Minister Sheikh Hasina.

Other speakers said the textiles sector has been playing an important
role for years for rural poverty alleviation, women empowerment and
employment generation.
