Rangpur zone collects Tk. 25.12 crore as income tax

RANGPUR, Nov 21, 2019 (BSS) – Taxes Zone of Rangpur collected over Taka
25.12 crore from 12 income tax fairs those concluded in the city and six
district level and five upazila level headquarters of the zone on Wednesday
night.

Tax Commissioner for Taxes Zone-Rangpur Md. Abdul Latif disclosed the
information at a press conference at the income tax fair venue in the city
last night.

In Rangpur divisional city office of the Tax Commissioner of Taxes Zone-
Rangpur organised the weeklong Income Tax Fair-2019 at Zila Parishad
Community Centre here from November 14 to 20 last.

The four-day district level income tax fairs were arranged at Dinajpur,
Kurigram, Nilphamari, Lalmonirhat, Thakurgaon and Panchagarh district
headquarters.

Besides, the two-day income tax fairs were arranged at Badarganj
(Rangpur), Fulbari (Dinajpur), Bochaganj (Dinajpur), Syedpur (Nilphamari),
Pirganj (Thakurgaon) and Mithapukur (Rangpur) upazila headquarters under the
zone.

The Tax Commissioner informed that 38,018 taxpayers submitted their
income tax return forms and paid Taka 25 crore 12 lakh 37 thousand and 103 as
income tax at these 12 fairs this time.

“Besides, 79, 665 taxpayers took various services from income tax
officials and employees, 1,358 new taxpayers registered electronic taxpayer
identification number (eTIN) numbers in these fairs,” he said.

The collected income tax amounting to over Taka 25.12 crore this time is
higher by over Taka 1.24 crore than the collected amount of over Taka 23.87
crore collected from 19,232 taxpayers at these 12 income tax fairs last year
in the zone.

“Last time, 57,883 taxpayers received various services and 1,049 new
taxpayers registered their e-TIN numbers in those fairs in the zone,” Latif
added.

Latif expressed satisfaction over the increasing number of enthusiastic
taxpayers at these fairs, taking various services under one roof and
spontaneously depositing income tax within minimum possible time in a hassle-
free manner.

“During the last one week, I talked to many taxpayers and they
appreciated the excellent atmosphere in the fairs those created awareness
among eligible citizens erasing fear about income tax inspiring them in
paying income tax spontaneously,” he added.

Latif informed that the Taxes Zone-Rangpur will launch a door-to-door
external survey for identifying 50,000 new taxpayers in all 22 circles of
seven districts in the zone during the current 2019-2020 FY.

“Earlier, we conducted only internal survey to identify 25,000 new
taxpayers during the 2018-2019 FY when we identified 28,149 new taxpayers and
issued e-TIN to them exceeding the target,” Latif said.

A plan has been taken to train university level students for sending
them in teams door-to-door to conduct door-to-door survey to identify 50,000
new taxpayers under leadership of income tax officials during the current FY
in the zone.

“We have fixed a target of collecting Taka 851 crore as income tax
during the current FY by identifying more taxpayers through conducting door-
to-door survey against Taka 630 crore collected income tax in last FY in the
zone,” Latif added.

On the occasion, Additional Tax Commissioner of Taxes Zone-Rangpur
Sheikh Md. Moniruzzaman said the income tax fairs have created awareness
among eligible citizens and improved their relations with income tax
officials this time in the zone.

He sought continuous media support in inspiring eligible citizens to
register e-TIN numbers and pay income tax spontaneously to further strengthen
national economy and eliminate dependence on foreign loans for national
development.
