774 families get electricity in Gaibandha

GAIBANDHA, June 3, 2018 (BSS) – A total of 774 families of Ramjibon and Tarapur
unions in Sundarganj upazila of the district got electricity connection being
arranged by Rangpur Palli Bidyut Samity (RPBS) on Saturday.

A simple function was organised on the premises of South Ideal Junior High
School of the upazila at noon on the occasion with area director of RPBS
Jahurul Islam in the chair.

Local lawmaker barrister Shamid Haider Patwari attended the function and
addressed it as the chief guest while Upazila chairman Mazedur Rahman was
present as the special guest.

The function was also addressed, among others, by deputy general manager
of Sundarganj Zonal Office of RPBS engineer Abu Solaiman Hossain, Union
Parishad chairman Khandarkar Mizanur Rahman, and political leader Enamul
Haque Montu.

Local lawmaker in his speeches said the government led by Prime Minister
Sheikh Hasina after assuming power in 2009 took initiatives to solve the
country’s power crisis through setting up new power plants.

By 2021, all the villages would be brought under rural electrification
programme to turn the country into a middle income one through changing the
living standard of the people, he also said.

Later, the chief guest formally inaugurated the electrification programme
by turning on a switch of a bulb.

A large number of people including the officials of GPBS, public
representatives, social workers, political leaders and local elite were
present on the occasion.
