16th span of Padma Bridge installed

MUNSHIGANJ, Nov 19, 2019 (BSS) – The 16th span of the Padma Multipurpose
Bridge was installed today making its around 2.5 kilometres out of total 6.15
visible.

“With the installation of 16th span of the bridge on its 16th and 17th
pillars, the construction work of about 2.5 kilometres of the country’s
largest bridge so far have been completed,” said Engr Humayun Kabir of the
bridge project.

Earlier, the span was brought to pillars this morning by a floating crane
Tian-E from the Kumarbhog Construction Yard of Louhajang upazila in
Munshiganj, he said.

On October 22 this year, the 15th span of the Padma Bridge was installed
at the Zajira point after a four-month break due to inclement weather and
rainy season.

Humayyun said ‘4D No Span’ of the bridge will be installed soon on the
22nd and 23rd pillars, while another span on 21st and 22nd pillars within
this month.

The 14th span of the bridge was installed on June 29, 2019.

The construction work of the long-cherished Padma Bridge Project began in
December, 2015. The first span (superstructure) of the bridge was installed
on September 30, 2017.

The length of the steel structure double-deck Padma Bridge is 6.15 km.
The trains will run through the lower deck while the road will be on the
upper level of the bridge.

Once the construction of the Padma Bridge is completed, the capital Dhaka
will be directly connected with 21 southern districts through road and
railways.
