Rahi savours Kohli wicket

INDORE, Nov 17, 2019 (BSS) – Not so many bowlers in this world had dismissed four frontline batsmen of India but Bangladesh’s pacer Abu Jayed Rahi became that rare breed of bowler who did it with an intriguing display of swing bowling.

The likes of Rohit Sharma, Cheteshwar Pujara, Virat Kohli and Ajinkya Rahane are the heart of Indian batting and highly respect around the world due to their ability to take the match away from the opponent’s grip with single-handedly.

Rahi took all of those four batsmen in his first Test in India but the lack of support from other end meant, despite his stellar performance, Bangladesh tasted an embarrassing innings and 130-run defeat in Indore Test.

However amongst those four wickets, Rahi savoured the wicket of Kohli most and said his wicket was something like dream comes true for him.

Jayed could have picked up five for had Imrul Kayes not dropped a sitter of Mayank Agarwal at 32, who virtually sealed the game for India with his brilliant double hundred.

“It’s not frustrating; I don’t bother about missed chances too much. I believe its part of cricket. I do accept that catches are supposed to be held on to but one can’t change the past by thinking about it,” he said.

“If I keep thinking about the missed chances it will affect me adversely. That’s why I try to create more chances at times like these because they might take those ones. For example, Saif took a great catch which dismissed Pujara (Chetershwar), it is also a part of cricket,” Rahi added.

”It was an amazing feeling to dismiss the two best batsmen of our times. Getting Virat Kohli’s wicket was like a dream coming true,” he said adding that he needs to be more consistent with his line and length.

”Obviously, I need to focus more on my line and length (as I don’t have express pace). In the first Test I gave away some freebies, if I can decrease the number of these boundary balls it will be much better,” he said.

Bangladesh however is not the place ideal for the pacers as they were overlooked almost in every home Test. Due to this, Rahi is the unfortunate one, who couldn’t be regularly featured in the side’s Test team.

Still he said he is not frustrated for not getting regular Test matches adding that he always keeps him ready to grab the opportunity that comes his way.

“I don’t think much about not getting Test call-ups. I always try to make it count when I get the opportunity. Even when we played that Test with a single pacer, I was the one to make the cut. So, I always have that to zeal to prove myself whether it in matches or at the nets,” said Rahi.

“I am always following my mantra which is to give my best. Whether it is for HP (High Performance) Unit.”
