RANGPUR, Nov 17, 2019 (BSS) – Members of the Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) –
13 arrested an alleged notorious drug trader with huge illegal arms,
ammunition and phensidyl from Chandrapur Bazaar in Kaliganj upazila of
Lalmonirhat in the small hours of today .
“On a tip off, a smart operational team of the Crime Prevention
Specialized Company of RAB-13 from its Rangpur headquarters conducted a raid
and arrested the drug trader with huge arms, ammunition, drugs and money,” a
press release said here today.
The arrested person could be identified as Khairuzzaman alias Khoyer alias
Jamal, 32, son of late Taslim Uddin of village Chandrapur in Kaliganj upazila
of Lalmonirhat district.
The elite force seized a foreign-made pistol with a magazine , two rounds
of live bullets, two one shooter guns, 72 bottles of phensidyl syrup, a
mobile phone set, two SIM cards, one memory card and Taka 7,000 cash money
from his possession.
In primary interrogation, the arrestee confessed his involvement with
smuggling and trading phensidyl syrup for a long through Chandrapur frontier
with the assistance of his relatives living on the other side of the Indian
border.
” The arrested Khairuzzaman had been possessing illegal arms and ammunition
and running drug trading in disuise of his hotel and restaurant business at
Chandrapur Bazaar ,” the release said.
Khairuzzaman is wanted as a top drug trader of Lalmonirhat district and
eleven criminal cases are pending against him with different police stations
in Lalmonirhat district.
The elite force handed over Khairuzzaman to Kaliganj police station in
Lalmonirhat after filing two separate cases under Arms Act and Narcotics
Control Act against him today, the release added.
