43rd death anniversary of Maulana Bhasani tomorrow

DHAKA, Nov 16, 2019 (BSS) – The 43rd death anniversary of veteran politician Maulana Abdul Hamid Khan Bhasani will be observed across the country tomorrow in a befitting manner.

Popularly known as “Majlum Jananeta”, the leader of the downtrodden Maulana Bhasani, passed away on November 17 in 1976.

President Abdul Hamid and Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina gave separate messages on the occasion of the 43rd anniversary of death of Maulana Abdul Hamid Khan Bhashani, paying glowing tributes to the late legendary political figure of the country.

In his message, President Abdul Hamid expressed him optimism that the ideals of Maulana Bhashani will inspire the new generation to imbue with patriotism and the spirit of the War of Liberation.

Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, in her message, credited Maulana Bhashani with struggling throughout his entire life for establishing a progressive, democratic and non-communal Bangladesh. To mark the day, different parties and organisations have chalked out various programmes.

The programmes include – placing wreaths on Bhasani’s grave at Santosh in Tangail district and offering prayers seeking eternal peace of his departed soul.

In observance of the day, the Bhashani Smriti Sangsad will hold a discussion meeting at 10 a.m. tomorrow at its Naya Paltan office.

Dua and milad mahfil will also be organized to pray for the eternal peace of late leader.

Former minister Noor Mohammad Khan, also a close associate of Maulana Bhashani, will remain present there as the chief guest.

Bhashani Smriti Sangsad president Ziaul Huq Milu will preside over the function.

Abdul Hamid Khan Bhasani, born in 1880 in Dhangara in Sirajganj, was the son of Haji Sharafat Ali Khan. He gained immense popularity among peasants.

He is regarded as the proponent of secular and left-leaning politics in Bangladesh.

He was the founder and president of the Pakistan Awami Muslim League which later became Awami League (AL). He also formed a progressive political organisation called National Awami Party (NAP).

Bhasani played a very significant role in the 1969 movement against Pakistan, which eventually led to the collapse of the Ayub regime and the release of Bangabandhu and other co-accused in the so-called Agartala conspiracy case.
