National convention on Disaster Management ends

DHAKA, July 31, 2017 (BSS)- The two-day national convention-2017 on Disaster Management ended here today laying an emphasis on integrated efforts to minimize losses of lives and property for sustainable growth.

At the convention, representatives of local government bodies and different non-government organizations, officials and mass people from disaster-prone areas called for taking development programme considering weather-pattern in different respective areas, an official release said.

They made the call at the convention at Bangabandhu International Conference Centre (BICC) in the city.

The participants put importance on comprehensive efforts of the government and non-government organisations, public representatives and local communities for creating awareness through disseminating knowledge to reduce risks of natural disasters.

They recommended involving educational and religious institutions and other available tools for quicker dissemination of disaster warnings.

On the first day of the convention, three workshops on doings for strengthening preparedness and creating awareness on lightning, earthquake preparedness and its risk reduction and identifying causes of landslide.

Two side events on damage measurement of disaster were also held at the convention.

On the second day of the convention, three workshops on different disaster events including flood and cyclones and three side events on climate change and disasters were held. Representatives of local government bodies and different non-government organizations, officials and mass people from disaster-prone areas attended the workshops and side events.

Over 1500 participants from different disaster-prone areas of the country took part in the convention.
