Rajshahi, Sylhet, Barishal city polls on July 30

DHAKA, May 29, 2018 (BSS) – Elections to Rajshahi, Sylhet and Barishal city corporations will be held on July 30.

“July 30 has been fixed as the date for holding elections to the three city corporations. The election schedule will be announced formally on June 13 and then it will come into effect,” Chief Election Commissioner (CEC) KM Nurul Huda told reporters, emerging from a meeting of the Election Commission (EC) at Nirbachan Bhaban here today.

Election Commissioners Mahbub Talukdar, Md Rafiqul Islam, Kabita Khanam, Brigadier General (Retd.) Shahadat Hossain Chowdhury and EC Secretary Helal Uddin Ahmed were present on the occasion.

According to the schedule, the last date for submitting nomination is June 28 while withdrawal July 9. The nominations will be scrutinized on July 1 and 2. Symbols will be allocated to the candidates on July 10, the CEC said, adding that Electronic Voting Machines (EVM) will be used in some voting centers during the three city corporation polls.

The new electoral code of conduct would come into effect from the three city corporation elections, if it is amended before June 13, Huda said.

The last elections to the Rajshahi, Sylhet and Barishal city corporations were held on June 15, 2013.
