DHAKA, Sept 26, 2019 (BSS) – Law, Justice and Parliamentary Affairs Minister Anisul Huq today said the killing of Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman along with most of his family members was part of Ziaur Rahman’s master plan.

“He was a person of cunning nature, but of little courage. He made the killers stand in the front, keeping himself behind. His main plan was to remove the killers like Khandaker Moshtak, Faruk and Rashid at one point and become president of the country himself. He implemented the plan gradually,” Anisul said.

He came up with the observations while addressing as chief guest a discussion titled “Indemnity Act: A Confined Chapter of Rule of Law” organized by Bangabandhu Sangskritik Jote at National Press Club here in the morning.

Presided over by Jote president Tarana Halim, the discussion was also addressed by prominent actors and Bangabandhu Sangskritik Jote leaders Dr Enamul Haque, Azizul Hakim, Amirul Haque and Keramot Mowla, among others.

The law minister said the Indemnity Ordinance was passed on September 26, 1975, to erase the name of Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman from Bangladesh.

“Khandaker Moshtak too was very cunning. He understood the fact that if they don’t pass such an ordinance and make the people panicked, they might face trial,” Anisul added.

The law minister further said the perpetrators behind the killing did not think the extent of damage they caused to the country. He also said as Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina believes in rule of law, she faced the “black law” (indemnity ordinance) in the legal way.

While talking about ongoing drive against corruption and casino, Anisul Huq said that Sheikh Hasina has the courage of arresting wrongdoers – no matter which party they belong to.

“BNP leaders are creating a lot of fuss, but they do not have courage to oust those people out of their party who steal money of the orphans,” he said.
