DHAKA, Sept 25, 2019 (BSS) – Afghanistan captain Rashid Khan expressed his
grave disappointment over not having a reserve day for the Tri-nation T20
series final which was abandoned due to rain at the Sher-e-Bangla National
Cricket Stadium in Mirpur on Tuesday.
Continuous rain played a spoilsport as Bangladesh and Afghanistan became
the joint champions of the Tri-nation T20 series after the final, as the
match was called off without a ball being bowled. Even the toss was not
possible.
The umpires waited for three hours to make the match happen but the rain
continued pouring without a hint of stopping. In the wake of the situation
they called it a day, meaning the two teams shared the trophy as per the by-
laws of the tournament.
It came as a shock to the spectators who turned up in abundance to witness
the final. There was no reserve day allocated for the final.
”We would like to have a reserve day for the final we had the discussion
in the dressing room on the same topic because it is such a big game.
Hopefully in the future we will have reserve day for the final,” Rashid Khan
told reporters adding that they would like to play with Bangladesh more in
the coming days.
”Definitely people back home want us to play Bangladesh more and more and
people here want to play Afghanistan,” he said.
“We don’t want to play short series like this but we want to have Test
series and ODI series and T20 series and the main focus should be on playing
ODI and Test cricket,” he said.
“Not only one Test but three Test matches and if we focus on playing 50
over and Test matches it will help us,” he said.
