KCC to get modern slaughterhouse soon

KHULNA, Sept 21, 2019 (BSS) – A modern slaughterhouse is going to be set up in Khulna city to ensure hygiene while slaughtering animals and supply safe meat to the consumers.

Department of Livestock Services (DLS) under its ‘Livestock and Dairy Development Project (LDDP)’ will establish the house involving around Taka 83 crore very soon.

It was decided at a meeting between KCC Mayor Talukder Abdul Khaleque and LDDP officials here on Thursday.

LDDP Director Kazi Washi Uddin said that such modern slaughterhouses will also be constructed in Chattogram and Rajshahi cities with the financial help of World Bank.

The sight to construct the house in KCC area has already been selected, he said, adding that implementation of the works will start during the current fiscal.

During his Power Point presentation, Dr Golam Rabbani, chief technical coordinator of the project, highlighted the salient feature of the house along with its implementation and operational process.

After completion of the project, there will be no bad smell in the city and its dwellers will get safe meat, he added.

Mayor Khaleque said time has come to strengthen the local government institutions and enable them to combat the spread of different types of diseases like anthrax.

If modern slaughterhouses are set up in urban and rural areas, many biogas plants could be established and the wastage of animals could be managed properly, he added.

Deputy Project Director Engineer Partha Prodeep Sarker and KCC Chief Executive Officer Palash Kanti Bala and Acting Chief Engineer Nazmul Islam, Chief Health Officer Dr A K M Abdullah, Chief Garbage Management Officer Engineer Md Abdul Aziz, among others, were present at the meeting.
