Govt. attaches priority to safety net programmes

RAJSHAHI, May 28, 2018 (BSS) – The present government has attached
priority for successful implementation of social safety net programmes.

The safety net programmes were furthermore expanded to achieve the
Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). So, all kind of non-coordination, laps
and gaps must be removed on an urgent basis.

The observation came at a meeting of cheque distribution among 22
patients sufferings from various chronic diseases like kidney, liver
cirrhosis, cancer, stroke paralysis and heart here yesterday.

Department of Social Services (DSS) provided the support. Deputy
Director Office of DSS organized the cheque distribution programme in the
conference hall of Deputy Commissioner.

On the occasion, 162 other students and affected persons also got
support worth Taka 1.22 lakh for treatment and education from National Social
Welfare Council.

Fazley Hossain Badsha, MP, addressed the ceremony as chief guest while
Director of DSS Zulfikar Haider and social worker Shaheen Akter Rainy
addressed the programme as special guests with Deputy Commissioner SM Abdul
Kader in the chair. Deputy Director of DSS Rashedul Kabir welcomed the
recipients.

Badsha said the present government has taken many steps for the welfare
of patients to help them pass their days without difficulties.

“Considering their vulnerable condition, the government has launched
allowance programme,” he said.

The beneficiaries have been getting their allowance timely through their
own bank accounts.

The safety net programmes can play a major role in eradicating poverty
by ensuring its proper planning, effective implementing policy, proper
coordination and transparency and accountability, Badsha added.
