CHATTOGRAM, Sept 10, 2019 (BSS)- The holy Ashura, commemorating the
martyrdom of Hazrat Imam Hossain Ibn Ali (RA), was observed on Tuesday in
Chattogram and its adjacent areas with due religious solemnity.

On the 10th of Muharram in the Hijri year 61, Hazrat Imam Hossain (RA), a
grandson of Prophet Hazrat Muhammad (PBUH), along with his family members and
followers were brutally killed by the soldiers of Yazid at the battle of
Karbala on the bank of Euphrates in Iraq while fighting for establishing
truth and justice in society.

The members of the Shia Muslim community brought out a procession known as
‘Tazia’ from Anderkilla area in the port city.

The participants in the Tazia procession paraded through the different
city streets chanting “Hai Hussain, Hai Hussain” repenting the most tragic
incident.

In the procession, the Shia Muslims expressed profound grief by
flagellating themselves on the back with chains and also beating their heads
intending to connect with the sufferings of Imam Hossain (RA).

Pilgrims mostly dressed in black, blared traditional Ashura chants through
loudspeakers. Different religious organisations and political parties have
also chalked out elaborate programmes to observe the day.

Besides, most of the Muslim families in the port city offered Fateha as a
mark of respect to the day
