World Physiotherapy Day observed in Rajshahi

RAJSHAHI, Sept 8, 2019 (BSS) – World Physiotherapy Day 2019 was observed here today as elsewhere in the country with an aim to reach healthcare service to the doorstep of people sufferings from chronic pains.

Afsar Hussain-CRP, Rajshahi divisional branch of Centre for the Rehabilitation of the Paralyzed (CRP), and local unit of Bangladesh Physiotherapy Association (BPA) jointly brought out a rally from CRP office premises.

Physiotherapists, physicians and students attended the rally and ended at the same venue after parading through different streets.

They also held a discussion meeting in the CRP conference hall in observance of the day. ‘Chronic Pain and Physiotherapy Management’ was the main theme of the day.

Deputy Director of Department of Social Services Rashedul Kabir, District Relief and Rehabilitation Officer Aminul Haque, retired professor Dr Shamsul Haque, President of Shaw Unnayan Mustafizur Rahman Khan and CRP Centre Manager Suma Begum addressed the meeting as resource persons.

Rashedul Kabir said physiotherapists are contributing to reduce the sufferings of the patients of various chronic diseases like arthritis, sports injury and bone decaying.

He added that time has come to boosting the number of physiotherapists in health care services as they are essential to the patients suffering from cervical and lumber spondylosis, disc prolepses, paralysis caused by stroke, facial nerve paralysis and cerebral palsy.

As the number of such patients is increasing, emphasis should be given to raise the number physiotherapists to bring all the patients under need-based care.

Kabir said around 10 percent people of the total population are disabled and half of them are physically challenged who require physiotherapy treatment.
