AL begins month-long mourning observance in Rangpur

RANGPUR, Aug 01, 2019 (BSS) – The district and city units of Awami League
(AL) and its associate bodies began observance of the National Mourning Day-
2019 and 44th martyrdom anniversary of Architect of Independence and Father
of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman here from midnight last
night.

The observance began with placing wreaths at the portrait of Bangabandhu
following by lighting of candles on district AL office premises in Betpotti
area of the city at one minute past after midnight last night.

Acting President of district AL Mamtaz Uddin Ahmed, its General Secretary
Advocate Rezaul Karim Raju, Organising Secretary Motahar Hossain Mandal
Mowla, Office Secretary Tauhidur Rahman Tutul, Women Affairs Secretary Latifa
Shawkat, Information and Publicity Secretary Rosy Rahman, Convener of
District Jubo League Kamruzzaman Shahin and hundreds of leaders and workers
of other associate bodies were present.

Later, leaders and workers of local AL and its all associate bodies placed
wreaths at the Mural of Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur
Rahman on Bangabandhu Square and lighted candles there after midnight.

Earlier, a documentary film on Bangabandhu, War of Liberation and
developments in the country was screened at district AL office in presence of
leaders and workers of AL, its associate bodies, Joybangla Sangskritik Oikko
Jyote and other organisations.

Local AL sources said, the month-long observance programs also include
playing of the historic March 7 Speech of Bangabandhu, spontaneous blood
donation, screening of documentary films on Bangabandhu, hoisting of the
national and party flags at half-mast.

Besides, the month-long programs include recitation from the Holy Quran,
milad mahfils and offering special munajats, brining out of mourning rally,
placing wreath at the Mural of Bangabandhu, distribution of foods among poor
and distressed people and discussions.
