DHAKA, July 28, 2019 (BSS) – Home Minister Asaduzzaman Khan Kamal today said militancy is now under control but yet to be removed or eliminated completely from the country.
“There is no room for militancy and terrorism in the country . . . in the meantime, some militants were identified as home-grown outfits and necessary action were taken against them,” he told journalists after a meeting on law and order on the occasion of the National Mourning Day on August 15 at his ministry conference room here.
This year the nation will observe 44th martyrdom of Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman and the National Mourning Day on August 15.
Kamal said the present government took stand against crimes of all sorts. “No criminals would be spared . . . stern actions will be taken if anyone tries to create anarchy in the country,” he added.
The home minister reiterated that the government is maintaining a zero tolerance policy against militancy and terrorism with a view to making Bangladesh a safe abode for all.
“Law enforcement agencies have destroyed militants’ dens and their networks across the country. Now police and intelligence agencies are on alert in dealing with any untoward situation for safety and security of the people,” Kamal said.
Replying to a query about recovery of bombs from nearby police check-post in Khamarbari, the minister said efforts were underway to eliminate militants’ activities across the country.
Terming the existence of any alien militants in the country as untrue, he said there are home grown militants and they expose themselves in different identities. “Their motive is to make the country unstable . . . sometimes they were identified as Jamaat-ul-Mujahideen Bangladesh (JMB), sometimes as Neo-JMB and even Ansarullah Bangla Team,” Kamal added.
