Two drug traders killed in Cox’s Bazar gunfight

COX’S BAZAR, July 24, 2019 (BSS) – Two suspected drug traders including a Rohingya were killed in a gunfight with members of Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) in Nila area under Teknaf upazila of the district early hours today.

The deceased were identified as Mohammad Kamal, 22, son of Mohammad Islam of Ukhiya Balukhali Rohingya camp and Mohammad Habibur Rahman, 23, son of Abul Shama of Whoicang Nayapara in Teknaf upazila.

“Acting on a tip-off, a team of BGB-2 went to the area around 3am when they
came to know that a group of drug traders were gathering there,” Sensing
their presence, drug traders opened fire on them, forcing them to fire back
that triggered a gunfight, leaving two persons injured, said Major Md.
Rubayet Kabir, Additional Director (Operation) of BGB-2.

After the gunfight, the BGB team found two drug traders bullet-hit. They
were taken to Teknaf Upazila Health Complex.

Later, they were shifted to Cox’s Bazar Sadar Hospital for better
treatment. But, they succumbed to their injuries at the hospital.

The BGB members also recovered 100,000 Yaba tablets and country made firearm from the spot, BGB said.
