Govt taking all-out efforts to stand by flood victims: Shameem

DHAKA, July 23, 2019 (BSS)-Deputy Minister for Water Resources AKM Enamul Hoque Shameem today said the government is making all out efforts to stay beside flood victims across the country.

“The government has been distributing relief goods among the flood victims… there is no shortage of relief goods,” he said this while talking to BSS.

Shameem, also Awami League Organising Secretary, said local administration, party leaders-workers are engaged in extending all-out supports to the flood affected people.

Water Resources Ministry has been working to minimise the damage of flood by building flood protection embankments at rivers.

The deputy minister expressed his satisfaction over the works of Ministry of Disaster Management and Relief and said the officials and employees of the ministry are working hard to help the flood victims.

Shameem said he visited 11 flood affected districts including Manikganj, Moulvibazar, Sylhet, Habiganj, Sunamganj, Tangail, Gaibanda, Sirajganj and Bogura in the past nine days and talked to flood victims.

He gave directives to the local administration to stand by the flood victims.

The deputy minister today visited his constituency Naria under Shariatpur district and distributed 20-kg rice to each of one thousand families in flood affected areas.

He also visited the development works of flood protection embankment at the Padma River in the district.

Speaking on the occasion, he said the government has already distributed sufficient relief goods in 33 flood affected areas under 12 districts.

None would suffer due to lack of food as long as Sheikh Hasina will serve as the country’s prime minister, he added.
