RCC gets 75 garbage removal vans

RAJSHAHI, July 19, 2019 (BSS)- Rajshahi City Corporation (RCC) was given 75 garbage removal vans aims at infusing dynamism into its safe and hygienic removal of household and other garbage activities.

On behalf of its Urban Development Programme (UDP), Brac donated the vans with the main thrust of supplementing the RCC’s efforts of making the city clean and environment-friendly.

RCC Mayor AHM Khairuzzaman Liton accompanied by many his council members received the vans at a simple ceremony at the city bhaban premises here yesterday afternoon.

Praising the Brac’s efforts Mayor Liton said concerted efforts of all government and non-government entities concerned have become crucial for environmental development side by side with reduction of urban poverty as it’s associated with multiple issues like water, sanitation, health, hygiene and drainage.

Collective efforts can be the vital means of freeing the urban slum areas from the existing vicious cycle of poverty. Special allocation in both local and national budgets side by side with support from the international donor agencies is also needed to attain the cherished goal.

Rajshahi and Sirajgonj Regional Coordinator of UDP Farzana Parveen illustrated objectives of the project and its activities and implementation strategy.

She told the meeting that around 73,000 people from 18,500 households living in different slum areas in the city improved their lives and livelihood conditions by getting different facilities from a project taken for reducing their multi-dimensional poverty and deprivation.

The project is intended to ensure safe drinking water, sanitation, housing and education facilities to the slum dwellers for improving their living and livelihood conditions, she informed.
