Water levels in 77 rivers rise, 14 fall

DHAKA, July 12, 2019 (BSS) – Water levels at 77 river stations monitored by Flood Forecasting and Warning Centre (FFWC) have marked rise while 14 stations recorded fall.

Among the 93 monitored stations, one river station has been registered steady while water levels at 12 river stations are flowing above danger level, a bulletin issued by the FFWC said here today.

Flood situations in areas of Netrokona, Sunamganj, Sylhet, Chattogram, Cox’s Bazaar, Bandarban and Lalmonirhat may deteriorate in next 24 hours commencing at 9am today.

The major rivers in Chattogram, Sylhet and Barishal division including the Surma, Kushiyara, Kangsha, Feni, Haldha, Matamuhuri and Sangu may rise rapidly in next 24 hours.

The Sungu at Bandarban, the Surma at Kanaighat, Sylhet and Sunamganj, the Kushiyara at Amalshid, Sheola, Sherpur- Sylhet, the Khowai at Ballah are flowing above danger level 177cm, 100cm, 32cm and 87cm, 42cm 13cm and 26cm at 40cm respectively.

Significant rainfall was recorded at some stations in different districts during the last 24 hours ending at 6 am today.

A total of 165 millimetres (mm) rainfall was recorded at Sunamganj and Rangamati, 155mm at Jafflong, 135mm at Tangail, 130mm at Sheola and 120mm at Dakhinbagh.
