DHAKA, April 30, 2018 (BSS) – The government has formed minimum wage board in 38 sectors out of 43 sectors across the country, state minister for labour and employment Mujibul Haque Chunnu said.
“The wage board formed for the readymade garment’s workers would submit its recommendation with fixing new salary structure within three months,” he told newsmen a press conference at his ministry conference room here today.
The state minister said the government formed the wage board on January 29, adding, “The present government provided Taka 22 crore to 2,650 workers of Sramik Kallyan Foundation. Currently the foundation has a deposit of Taka 283 crore in it’s fund.”
He urged all industrialists to deposit five percent from their net profit to the Sramik Kallyan Foundation as per the Labour Act.
“Relatives of each worker who succumbed by accident get Taka two lakh, Taka one lakh for treatment and children of worker get education allowance for higher education,” Chunnu added.
He said a central fund was created having Taka 44.63 crore deposit for export oriented garment workers, adding, “Taka 5.76 crore was given to 1,326 workers from the fund.”
The state minister said that the government set up day-care centres for workers’ children at 4,243 factories and the government also declared 38-category as risky work. “We have taken decision for ensuring workplaces free from children, while cent percent child labour was removed from readymade garment and shrimp industry,” he added.
The government has also undertaken initiative to safe work place at 83 lakh economic units, Chunnu said.
