After all Tamim is human: Rhodes

DHAKA, July 3, 2019 (BSS)-Bangladesh head coach Steve Rhodes was surprised a little to see a safe fielder like Tamim Iqbal dropped a catch but was okay with it, citing it’s a part of cricket.

Tamim put down a sitter of Rohit Sharma when he miscued a pull of Mustafizur Rahman on 9. The drop proved costly as Rohit led India to comfortable 314-9, blasting a 92 ball-104, his fourth century in the tournament.

Rhodes might be surprised but like the captain Mashrafe he was also not ready to blame Tamim, saying that after all he is a human.

“I’ve watched a lot of cricket over the years and played a lot of cricket, and you know that any drop can be costly. I didn’t know how costly it would be. I was hoping he’d hit another one up in the air a little bit sooner, but I know exactly what you’re angling towards. Rohit Sharma, what a wonderful batsman he is in world cricket. You give guys like him a chance or Kohli a chance, and you may well pay the price,” he said.

“Again, the person who dropped it was Tamim, and he’s got one of our — he’s developed into one of our safer pair of hands in the outfield, so it was a little bit of a surprise, but he’s human, and we’re all human.”

Rhodes also revealed his personal experience on dropping catch.

“I’ve dropped lots of catches in my life. I think everybody who’s played the game has dropped catches, but sometimes they can be very, very costly, and that one proved to be.”
