Mixed day for Bangladesh in ITF Asia U-12 opener

DHAKA, June 24, 2019 (BSS) – It was a mixed day for Bangladesh in the ITF Asia U-12 team event competition as the girls’ team beat the Maldives but the boys team lost to India on the opening day held on Monday at National Ramna Tennis court complex in the city.

In the day’s girls’ event, Bangladesh beat the Maldives by 2-1 set. Protasha Das of Bangladesh lost to Aasaal Azim Ara of the Maldives 3-6, 0-6 in the first set but the host bounced back to make 1-1 as Sadia Arfin beat her Maldives counterpart 6-2, 6-2.

Later Protasha Das and Sadia Arfin pair of Bangladesh beat Shafee Saeed Aya and Aasaal Azim Ara of the Maldives 6-4, 6-3 in the third set.

In the day’s boys’ singles event, Bangladesh lost to India by 3-0 set. Sajib Hosain lost to Ramalingam Senthil Rethin Pranav of India 0-6, 0-6 in the first set, Nadim Mollah lost to Dhamne Manas Monoj 1-6, 0-6 and Sajib Hossain and Mohammad Bhuiyan pair lost Dhamne Manas Monoj and Pakarkar Arnav Vijay pair 0-6, 0-6 in the third set.

Earlier, National Parliament Whip and Bangladesh Women’s Sports Association’s president Mahbub Ara Begum Gini, MP formally inaugurated the meet as the chief guest.

Prime Bank Limited deputy managing director Touhidul Alam Khan, Islami Bank Limited deputy managing director Abu Reza Mohammad Eahiya, Bangladesh Tennis Federation general secretary Golam Morshed, were among others, present on the occasion.
