DHAKA, April 18, 2018 (BSS) – Social Welfare Minister Rashed Khan Menon today said the government will bear all educational expenses of the two younger brothers of Rajib Hossain who died early Tuesday after losing a hand in a tragic road accident in Dhaka two weeks ago.

The minister said this at a press conference at his Secretariat office here.

“The government took the responsibility of Rajib’s medical treatment, but he succumbed to his injuries…Now the future of his two younger brothers is at risk due to Rajib’s untimely death,” the minister said.

Menon said, “A proposal has already been sent to Rajib’s family. If they agree, then we will send the two brothers to Mirpur Shishu Paribar (children home).”

Acting secretary of the Social Welfare Ministry Khandaker Atiar and Department of Social Services Director General Gazi Mohammad Nurul Kabir, among others, were present at the press conference.

On April 3, Rajib lost his right hand from the elbow after being caught between two buses at Sonargaon Crossing in the capital city due to the reckless driving by the drivers of BTRC and Swajan Paribahan.

Rajib was first admitted to Panthapath’s Samorita Hospital and then shifted to DMCH. Health Minister Mohammad Nasim visited injured Rajib at the DMCH on Thursday.

Jahanara Begum, maternal aunt of the deceased, told BSS that Rajib was living in a mess at Jatrabari with his two younger brothers, Mehedi Hasan, a class seven student and Abdullah, a class six student of Tamirul Millat Madrasha.

Rajib lost his mother when he was in class three and father in class eight, she said, adding that he had been guardian of his two younger brothers since then.
