Supplementary budget of Tk 15,166 cr passed

SANGSAD BHABAN, June 17, 2019 (BSS) – The Jatiya Sangsad today passed the supplementary budget of Taka 15,166 crore 18 lakh 54 thousand for the outgoing 2018-19 fiscal to meet the increased expenditures under different ministries and divisions.

Finance Minister AHM Mustafa Kamal placed the supplementary budget in the House on June 13 along with the national budget for fiscal 2019-20.

Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina on behalf of the finance minister moved the Appropriation (Supplementary) Bill, 2019 in the House here today.

The lawmakers approved the bill by voice votes allowing the government to spend Taka 15,166 crore 18 lakh 54 thousand from the consolidated fund to meet the expenditures of the current fiscal ending on June 30, 2019.

Different ministries, divisions and institutions sought the additional amount under 35 demands for the grant.

Jatiya Party lawmakers Kazi Feroz Rashid, Fakhrul Imam, Rawshan Ara Mannan, BNP lawmaker Harunur Rashid, Gono Forum lawmaker Mokabber Khan raised most of the cut motions which were rejected by voice votes.

But before that opposition lawmakers took part in short discussion on their cut motions while ministers concerned defended their demand for grants before the passage of the supplementary budget of the current fiscal 2018-19.

Later, the House unanimously passed the Appropriation (Supplementary) Bill 2019 through voice votes.

The total allocation in the current national budget was Taka 4 lakh 64 thousand 373 crore. Later, the allocation in the revised budget stands at Taka 4 lakh 42 thousand 541 crore.

In the national budget of the current fiscal, the revenue income was estimated at Taka 3 lakh 43 thousand 331 crore. In the revised budget, the revenue was kept at Taka 3 lakh 20 thousand 399 crore.

Besides, the size of the Annual Development Programme (ADP) outlay in the national budget was Taka 1 lakh 73 thousand which was reduced to Taka 1 lakh 67 thousand in the revised budget of 2018-19 fiscal.

In the supplementary budget, the highest Taka 2,447 crore 88 lakh 23 thousand was allocated for the Election Commission while Taka 1604 crore 64 lakh 78 thousand was sanctioned for the Ministry of Defense.

Besides, the local government division got Taka 1542 crore 84 lakh 59 thousand, Taka 1276 crore 79 lakh 44 thousand for the power division and Taka 1182crore 93 lakh 56 thousand earmarked for the Housing and Public Works Ministry.

In addition to this, Taka 972 crore 5 crore 87thousand was sanctioned for the Secondary and Higher Education division, Taka 876 crore 16 lakh 11 thousand for the Ministry of Textile and Jute, Taka 677 crore 73 lakh 93 thousand for the Shipping Ministry, Taka 674 crore 71 lakh 34 thousand for the Security Service division Under the Ministry of Home Affairs, Taka 674 crore 33 lakh 47 thousand was given to the Public Security Division under the Ministry of Home Affairs, Taka 586 crore 64 lakh 90 thousand allocated for the Ministry of Water Resources, Taka 428 crore 4 lakh 7 thousand for the Economic Relations Division (ERD).

Taka 326 crore 58 lakh 46 thousand for the Religious Affairs Ministry, Taka 305 crore 43 lakh 3 thousand got the Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources Ministry, Taka 229 crore 68 lakh 40 thousand for the Public Administration Ministry, Taka 220 crore 97 lakh 77 thousand for the Industries Ministry, Taka 190 crore 50 lakh for the Ministry of Science and Technology, Taka 151 crore 67 lakh 35 thousand for the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Taka 141 crore 86 lakh 37 thousand for the Statistics and Information Management Division.

Taka 69 crore 37 lakh 7 thousand allocated for the Environment, Forest and Climate Change Ministry, Taka 59 crore 13 lakh 86 thousand for the Disaster Management and Relief Ministry, Taka 55 crore 29 lakh 43 thousand for the Technical and Madrasha education division, Taka 54 crore 12 lakh 69 thousand for the Law and Judicial Division, Taka 46 crore 93 lakh 34 thousand for the Bangladesh Public Service Commission (BPSC), Taka 57 crore 56 lakh 15 thousand for the Rural Development and Cooperative Division, Taka 21 crore 8 lakh 17 thousand for the Youth and Sports Ministry and Taka 5 crore 34 lakh 60 thousand for the Anti-Corruption Commission(ACC).
