PM seeks more South Korean investment

DHAKA, April 12, 2018 (BSS) – Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina today sought more South Korean investment in Bangladesh for mutual benefits of the two countries.

“Both the countries are getting benefits from this investment,” she said when South Korean Ambassador in Dhaka Ahn Seong-doo paid a farewell call on her at Ganabhaban this morning.

PM’s Press Secretary Ihsanul Karim briefed reporters after the meeting.

Pointing out Bangladesh’s remarkable progress in the ICT sector, Sheikh Hasina said her government has put emphasis on establishment of small and medium scale industries instead of heavy industries.

She also highlighted the ‘Learning and Earning Project’ which was highly appreciated by the South Korean envoy.

The premier said the aim of her government is to build a developed and prosperous Bangladesh.

Referring to Bangladesh’s better connectivity with Southeast Asian countries, including Thailand, Vietnam and Laos, she said her government is working to expand trade and commerce with these countries.

The South Korean envoy hoped that Bangladesh would be one of the major manufacturing countries in the world as it is marching ahead by establishing Export Processing Zones (EPZs) and special economic zones.

He pointed out that Bangladesh and South Korea have already started manufacturing of electronic goods on joint venture.

Noting that his country is a major investor in Bangladesh’s garment sector, Ahn Seong-doo said Bangladesh-Korea economic cooperation is successful.

He highly lauded Bangladesh’s tremendous socioeconomic progress under the visionary leadership of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina.

The South Korean Ambassador also appreciated Bangladesh’s more than seven percent GDP growth and wished more success of the country.

Ahn Seong-doo said he passed a successful tenure in Bangladesh and thanked the government for extending its sincere cooperation in discharging his duty.

PM’s Principal Secretary Md Nojibur Rahman and PMO Secretary Sajjadul Hasan were present on the occasion.
