Dhaka seeks continuation of market access in developed countries

DHAKA, May 30, 2019 (BSS) – Planning Minister MA Mannan, now in Bangkok, today said that the market access that the developed countries offer to countries like Bangladesh should continue for the mutual benefit.

“We hope that the market access which you’ve given to us add very profitable business trend and strategy for you…….it should be allowed to continue for your benefit and for our benefit too,” he added.

Mannan said this is not a win-win situation for both the parties, adding, “For us, this is loose-win and for them it is win-win.”

The planning minister was speaking at an event titled ‘Graduation of LDCs, International Support Measures and Leveraging Implementation of Sustainable Development Goals’ on the sidelines of the 75th Annual Session of UNESCAP in Bangkok, according to a message received here.

With the planning minister in the chair, ERD Joint Secretary M Anwar Hossain made the key-note presentation at the event while UNESCAP Executive Secretary Armida Salsiah Alisjahbana and Bangladesh Ambassador to Bangkok Md Nazmul Quaunine were present, among others.

Hoping that all human beings would live in a civilized and fair way in the world, the planning minister said, “We want a fair trade and deal for everyone and this is the call of time …….so this international support measures should have to be continued.”

He went on saying, “Just we gradually moved out of poverty. So, please let us gradually move into not prosperity, at least decency, a decent minimal way of living which is acceptable to human psyche.”

Mentioning that Bangladesh would continue to work with UNESCAP in the coming days, Mannan said, “Asia is moving up and we’re also moving up. Let us put our hands together in Asia, in the North and in the West.”

Recognizing the role of the expatriate Bangladeshi workers abroad, he said about 11 million Bangladeshis work abroad and they are contributing to push the country towards prosperity and making rich.

The planning minister said Bangladesh has done fairly well over the last few years thanks to the dynamic leadership of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, adding, “We’re moving out of that bitter poverty to the door of prosperity.”

He urged all to work together and build a better future for the welfare of all the countries.
