DHAKA, May 20, 2019 (BSS) – Awami League general secretary and Road, Transport and Bridges Minister Obaidul Quader today said the opposition in the Jatiya Sangsad would have been stronger, if BNP secretary general Mirza Fakhrul Islam would have joined the parliament.

“Joining of Mirza Fakhrul to parliament was mandatory to serve the purpose of BNP as the opposition party,” Quader briefed the newsmen after a meeting of different projects’ officials of the Bridges Division at Sentu Bhaban of Banani here.

He said BNP has shown its political maturity by joining the parliament and Mirza Fakhrul would have given the strong message of his party as a heavyweight leader on behalf of opposition in the House.

Pointing to BNP, Obaidul Quader said, “BNP will decide what to do now?”

The AL leader said if they (BNP) speak inside the House or outside it, the treasury bench will also be benefited ultimately as well.

If BNP tries to launch street agitation against the government the Awami League will face it politically, the ruling AL general secretary said.

“The law enforcement agencies will take necessary measures if BNP, in the name of movement, goes for confrontation, arson attacks, ransacking and anarchy anyway,” he added.

Terming recent activities of Bangladesh Chhatra League (BCL) as very unfortunate, Quader said Prime Minister and AL president Sheikh Hasina gave assignment to four persons to oversee the issue.

Replying to a query of journalists about the reshuffle in the cabinet, the minister said, “Prime Minister is our team leader . . . and the captain of the ship. She has done it to ensure quality and speed of work.”
