China to cooperate in Rohingya repatriation: envoy

DHAKA, May 19, 2019 (BSS) – Chinese Ambassador in Dhaka Zhang Zuo today reiterated that China would extend cooperation in repatriation of forcibly displaced Rohingya people, who took shelter in Bangladesh, to their homeland Myanmar.

“China will play a cooperative role in resolving Rohingya crisis. China neutrally expects Rohingya repatriation will begin soon,” he said while paying a courtesy call on Information Minister Dr Hasan Mahmud at his secretariat office here, according to a press release.

Mahmud drew the attention of the ambassador to accelerate the process of building full-fledged television stations in six divisions in the country with Chinese cooperation.

“China has goodwill of completing large works in quickest time. China has proved its success as a partner of different mega projects in Bangladesh,” he said.

Lauding Bangladesh’s development activities, the Chinese ambassador said under the leadership of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina Bangladesh has made an unprecedented development.

Laying emphasis on blue economy and coastal economic activities, Zuo expressed his hope that Bangladesh would be an important member in world economy in future.

Information Secretary Abdul Malek, officials of Information Ministry and Chinese Embassy were present on the occasion.
