Security will be beefed up during Eid: home minister

DHAKA, May 19, 2019 (BSS) – Home Minister Asaduzzaman Khan Kamal today said the government has undertaken all-out security measures to ensure safety and security of the common people on the occasion of the Holy Eid-ul-Fitr across the country.

“The law and order forces have been instructed to intensify security measures in the capital as well as across the country to ensure peaceful celebrations of the Eid”, he told newsmen after emerging from a meeting on Eid security at his ministry conference room.

The minister said that the law enforcers would conduct block raids across the country including the capital alongside setting up of check posts aimed to ensure adequate security measures.

Besides, the police will also set up separate check posts at the entry and exit points of the capital; he said, adding that patrol police will keep close surveillance to the houses in the capital during the Eid vacation.

Replying to a question, whether there is any threat of sabotage, Asaduzzaman Khan said: “No, there is no threat of sabotage. Intelligence agencies are on alert.”

About salary and bonus of readymade garment (RMG) workers, he urged the owners of the garment factories to pay their salaries and bonuses before the Eid.

The minister said stern action will be taken if buses or launches carry passengers beyond their capacities and passengers are charged extra fare during the Eid.

Apart from the uniformed members of law enforcement agencies, the plain clothed Detective Branch (DB) of police and members of the Counter Terrorism and Transnational Crime (CTTC), the Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) will also be vigilance at all airports, diplomatic zones, buses, ferries, train terminals and shopping malls to ensure security during the Eid, Kamal added.
