One held with 18.91-lakh fake currency notes in Rangpur

RANGPUR, May 16, 2019 (BSS) – Rangpur Metropolitan Police (RpMP) arrested a man and seized denominations of fake Bangladesh and Indian currency notes worth Taka 18:91-lakh on Wednesday from Pirjabad Jugitari area in the city.

“The arrested presumed fake currency note producer and trader is Ali Hossain, son of late Abed Ali of Pirjabad Jugitari area under Kotwali Thana in the city, said a press release issued by RpMP today.

On secret information of production and marketing of fake currency notes, a special RpMP team conducted a sudden raid at the house of Ali Hossain.

After searching, the police team seized Bangladeshi fake 600 denominations of Taka 1,000 currency notes and fake 1,100 denominations of Taka 500 currency notes totaling to Taka 11.50-lakh from an old iron box in the house.

The team seized Indian 115 fake denominations of Rupees 2,000 currency notes, 300 fake denominations of Rupees 1,000 currency notes and 430 fake denominations of Rupees 500 currency notes totaling to Rupees 7.45-lakh.

“Besides, the police team seized machineries, other materials used for producing fake currency notes and two mobile phone sets from the house and arrested Ali Hossain red-handed,” the release added.

“During primary interrogation, the arrested person admitted his involvement with producing and marketing of fake currency notes in Rangpur and other parts of the country for a long time,” RpMP Commissioner Alim Mahmud told BSS today.

After filing a case in this connection, the arrested man was handed over the Rangpur Kotwali Thana of RpMP last night,’ the release added.
