DHAKA, May 14, 2019 (BSS) – Appellate Division of the Supreme Court (SC)
today dismissed an appeal filed by BNP leader Barrister Moudud Ahmed against
a High Court order revoking plea to stay a graft case proceedings against
him.
“After today’s order, there is now no legal bar in continuing the graft
case proceedings against the former law minister at the lower court,” Anti-
Corruption Commission (ACC) counsel Khurshid Alam Khan told newsmen.
A four-member Appellate Division bench headed by Chief Justice Syed Mahmud
Hossain dismissed the plea as it found ‘no merit’ behind the application.
Senior jurist Barrister Rokon Uddin Mahmud moved the case for Moudud, while
Khurshid Alam Khan stood for ACC.
Earlier on April 8, the High Court had scrapped Moudud’s plea to impose a
stay on the graft case proceedings, and the former law minister filed the
appeal against that order with the apex court.
The ACC filed the case with Gulshan Police Station on September 16, 2007,
for amassing illegal wealth of Taka 7.38 crore and concealing information
about wealth of Taka 4.40 crore more in his wealth statement.
