RCC Mayor for improving standard of healthcare services

RAJSHAHI, May 13, 2019 (BSS)- Mayor of Rajshahi City Corporation(RCC) AHM
Khairuzzaman Liton has urged all concerned to improve quality of healthcare
services for welfare of the public general.

He said emphasis should be given on transforming the public sector
hospitals and other health service delivery entities into the safe places for
the common people as they are dependent on those for their emergency
healthcare needs.

The mayor made this observation while addressing the third founding
anniversary function of Rajshahi Medical University (RMU) at Shaheed AHM
Kamaruzzaman Zila Parishad auditorium here yesterday afternoon as the chief
guest.

Chaired by RMU Vice-chancellor Prof Masum Habib the meeting was addressed,
among others, by Vice-chancellor of Rajshahi University of Engineering and
Technology Prof Rafiqul Islam Sheikh, Principal of Rajshahi Medical College
Prof Nawshad Ali and RMU Registrar Prof SMA Huraiyra.

Mayor Liton says the present government under the dynamic leadership of
Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina has been working relentlessly to ensure
healthcare services to the people including the grassroots ones.

He also said the government has taken measures of updating the medical
education and added that the RMU will play pivotal role in this regard.

Prof Masum Habib told the meeting that RMU has started its academic
activities aiming to improve and expand scopes of the medical education,
research and treatment in the region.

The university will conduct 90 post-graduate courses under eight faculties
in phases, he added.

All the existing public and private medical colleges, dental colleges and
nursing colleges and institutes in Rajshahi, Rangpur and Khulna divisions
have been brought under jurisdiction of RMU since 2017-18 sessions.

Besides, there will be a 1000-bed modern hospital attached to the
university.

A nursing institute will also be established for creating skilled nurses.
Acquisition process of 86 acres of land in Borobangram area in the city is
progressing fast.

Prof Habib also said RMU will establish a full-fledged psychiatry
department to supplement the Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina’s effort to take
the autistic and other mentally retarded children forward.
