President asks army to familiarize with high-tech

 SAIDPUR, Nilphamari, March 28, 2018 (BSS) – President M Abdul Hamid today asked the Bangladesh Army to be more capable through high quality trainings and hard working to face the challenges of the ultramodern technologies.

“The army in the globe is now using the ultramodern weapons and equipments . . . So there is no alternative but take quality trainings in military life,” he said while addressing the 5th reunion of the Corps of Electrical and Mechanical Engineers (EME) of Bangladesh Army at Saidpur cantonment here.

The President, who is also supreme commander of the armed forces, said trainings help enhance professional skills and make efficient as well as devoted to the duty.

Referring to different activities of the EME crops of the Bangladesh army at home and abroad in various perspectives, he hoped, “The EME crops personnel would continue their activities upholding the image of the army and play a significant role in ensuring the overall development of the country.”

The President put emphasis on showing respect and keeping loyalty to the commanders to complete any work with efficiency and in a disciplined way. Everyone should go ahead keeping a full confidence in the leadership, he added.

Referring to the present government’s time-befitting steps to develop the EME crops, he said different initiatives including the development of its organizational and infrastructures, setting up new units, increasing manpower, foreign mission and imparting training, have been taken.

Hamid highly appreciated the training activities in the EME Centre of School, where female recruiters are also being imparted trainings since 2014, saying, “The trainings for the crops help the skillful army personnel to remain ready for emergency situation.”

He said the present government was firmly committed to build a competent, efficient, modern, effective and time-befitting armed force in line with the incumbent government’s “Vision-2021”.

The President praised the armed forces role in facing national calamities like flood, tidal surge and cyclones, handling the recent Rohingya crisis and also their contribution to the UN peacekeeping missions abroad.

He also lauded army’s role particularly in carrying out successful anti- militancy operations like the “Operation Thunderbolt” and “Operation Whitelight” respectively at Gulshan Holey Artisan Bakery on July 1, 2016 and Atia Mahal at Surma in Sylhet.

Senior political leaders, chiefs of the three services, parliament members, former and current EME crops officials, secretaries concerned to the president, senior military and civil officials were present on the occasion.
