Media role vital for expediting family planning activities

RAJSHAHI, May 5, 2019 (BSS)- Speakers at a workshop here today emphasized the role of media on infusing dynamism into the activities of family planning and other reproductive health services.

They mentioned that objective reporting on the issue always plays important role to face the existing challenges in the field level activities related to founding planned family, prevention of child marriage and pregnancy, ensuring institutional delivery, reproductive health services to juveniles and adolescents, safe motherhood and maternal care.

Department of Family Planning (DFP) under its Information, Education and Communication Operational Plan organized the “journalist sensitization workshop” at its office conference hall with the main thrust of sensitizing the local journalists on the issues concerned.

Deputy Director of DFP Dr Nasim Akhter addressed the meeting as the focal person while Assistant Director Tasiqul Haque, Medical Officer of Clinical Contraceptives Dr Abdul Mannan and Medical Officer of Mother and Baby Welfare Centre Dr Ahsanul Islam supported her.

Dr Nasim Akhter opined that all the authorities concerned should work together for providing necessary information relating to reproductive health services to the adolescents for their welfare.

Proper knowledge and education on physical change, sex and reproductive health for the adolescents could play a vital role in building planned family, she said.

Ensuring adolescent-friendly reproductive health services has become an urgent need for making the adolescents free from various misconceptions relating to reproductive health, Dr Nasima added.

Terming child marriage as gross violation of human rights, the health experts mentioned that the children are being married off, despite multifarious interventions by the government and non-government organisations concerned.
