Voting in MCC polls continues peacefully

MYMENSINGH, May 5, 2019 (BSS) – Voting in the maiden election to the
Mymensingh City Corporation (MCC) is continuing peacefully here today.

A festive mood is prevailing in the polling centers as the voters
exercising their franchise in the maiden election to the MCC.

The balloting began at 8am and it will continue to 4pm without any break
when all of 2,96,938 voters are expected to exercise their voting rights in
electronic voting machines (EVMs) at all the 127 polling centers under 33
wards.

Returning Officer and Regional Election Officer Md Alimuzzaman, earlier,
told BSS that they had taken all-out preparations to hold a peaceful
election.

Awami League mayoral nominee Ekramul Haque Titu, however, has already been
elected mayor unopposed. Some 242 persons are vying for councilor posts in 33
wards while 70 others are contesting for reserved women councilor posts in
the polls.

10 ansar members and three police men have been deployed at each polling
centers while 22 platoons of Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB), 33 mobile teams
of Rapid Action Battalion (RAB), 33 mobile teams of police and 11 striking
forces have also been deployed to avert any untoward incident.

Besides, one executive magistrate and three additional executive
magistrates are discharging duties in each ward. Sixteen judicial magistrates
are also performing their duties in the election.
