28 poor women get sewing machines in Rajshahi

RAJSHAHI, March 19, 2018 (BSS) – Twenty-eight poor and distressed women were given sewing machines and clothes free of cost for improving their living and livelihood condition.

BRAC distributed the tools in association with its ‘Urban Development Programme’ at a function in the conference hall of Rajshahi City Corporation here on Sunday afternoon.

The machinery support will help the women boosting their level of confidence through regular income.

City Mayor Mosaddique Hossain Bulbul addressed the ceremony as chief the guest with its ward councilor Mahbub Sayed Tuku in the chair. Executive Engineer Nur Islam Tusser, Housing Specialist Wasim Akter, Regional Coordinator of BRAC Farzana Parveen and its Field Coordinator Kolpona Khatun also spoke.

Farzana Parveen told the function that around 53,000 people of 12,500 households living in different slum areas in the city are getting time- fitting tools of improving their living and livelihood condition for reducing multi-dimensional poverty and deprivation under the urban development programme.

An empowering situation is being created so that the targeted people are able to get access to adequate, safe and affordable housing, basic and inclusive services and upgrades slums.

Around 17,500 youths, including around 13,000 females of 15-29 age group, will get empowerment and entrepreneurship privileges through need- based promotional activities.

Of them, 3,000 youths will be imparted either three or six-month need- based vocational and technical training and job placement for improving their living and livelihood condition.

Farzana Parveen said the programme intends to promote socio-economic empowerment of the beneficiary people.
