RANGPUR, Apr 17, 2019 (BSS) – Livestock experts at a workshop today sought media cooperation to ensure food safety governance in the poultry sector aiming to produce best quality poultry meat.
They made the call at the workshop styled ‘Role of Mass Media in Ensuring Food Safety in the Poultry Sector’ held at conference room of the district office of the Department of Livestock Services (DLS) in the city.
Rangpur unit of Consumers Association of Bangladesh (CAB) under its Issue-based Project on Food Safety Governance in Poultry Sector Project organised the workshop with assistance of the DLS and other organisations.
Local journalists from the print and electronic media as well as poultry farm owners, poultry feed suppliers, poultry medicine traders, representatives of poultry medicine producers and poultry traders were present.
District Livestock Officer Dr. Md. Shah Jalal Khandker attended the workshop as the chief guest with President of Rangpur district unit of CAB Abdur Rahman in the chair.
Sadar Upazila Livestock Officer Dr Md Sarwar Hossain, Poultry Development Officer of the Government Poultry Farm at Rangpur Fazlul Karim, General Secretary of Rangpur district unit of CAB Ahsanul Haque Tuhin and President of district Poultry Owners’ Association Akbor Hossain addressed the workshop.
In his welcome speech, Abdur Rahman elaborately narrated goals of arranging the workshop with local journalists to seek their cooperation to ensure production and marketing of healthier and hygienic poultry birds.
Dr Sarwar Hossain discussed technologies for proper rearing and feeding of poultry birds, supplying poultry medicines and poultry feeds, combating diseases, vaccination, caring eggs during breeding of chicks and marketing of poultry products.
“Currently, the chicken eggs and meat are being produced in the district by adopting latest scientific technologies and maintaining maximum safety for human health to meet nutritional demand of the population,” he added.
Dr. Khandker said the private poultry farms are producing over 12 crore pieces of chicken eggs annually in Rangpur on an average with 30.10 lakh population having an annual demand of only 3.22 crore pieces of eggs.
“The journalists can play vital role in creating public awareness so that all stakeholders concerned strictly follows business regulation to promote safe food governance for accelerating hygienic growth of the poultry sector,” he added.
