RAJSHAHI, March 15, 2018 (BSS) – Chief Election Commissioner (CEC) KM Nurul Huda here today said election of five city corporations including Rajshahi will be held in July this year.
“The Election Commission has started taking preparation to this end and final decision will be taken soon at EC meeting,” he said while inaugurating smart card distribution activities at Damkura High School playground under Paba upazila in the district.
Huda said the elections of Gazipur, Rajshahi, Khulna, Barishal and Sylhet will be held before the election of National Parliament.
He, however, said the specific date of the election yet to be finalised.
“But, preliminary, I can say all the elections will be held by July,” Nurul Huda asserted.
He also said the national election will be held in mid January next year.
He expressed hope that all political parties, including BNP, will participate in the election.
Regional Election Officer Syed Amirul Islam, Additional District Magistrate Subrata Paul, District Election Officer Atiar Rahman and Upazila Election Officer Shahnaz Parveen were present.
