JS body for introducing “National River Protection Award”
DHAKA, Apr 11 , 2019 (BSS) – The Parliamentary Standing Committee on the Shipping Ministry today recommended introducing “National River Protection Award” aiming to encourage people for protecting rivers and raising voice against riverbank grabbing.
The meeting also suggested taking up steps to resume usual navigability of rivers and ensuring effective management of rivers to help contribute to the country’s socioeconomic development.
The committee came up with the recommendations at its 3rd meeting held at Jatiya Sangsad (JS) Bhaban with its chairman Major (Retd) Rafiqul Islam Bir Uttam in the chair, an official release said.
Committee members State Minister for Shipping Khalid Mahmud Chowdhury, Ranajit Kumar Ray, Dr. Shamil Uddin Ahmed Shimul, SM Shahjada attended the meeting.
The meeting asked the Deputy Commissioners to observe “River Cleaning Day” every month to save the rivers from pollution.
