Prof Zafar Iqbal returns to SUST

SYLHET, March 14, 2018 (BSS) – Country’s noted science fiction writer Professor Muhammed Zafar Iqbal today returned to Shahjalal University of Science and Technology (SUST) campus after 10-day treatment in Dhaka following a terror attack on him.

“Prof Zafar Iqbal left the Combined Military Hospital (CMH), Dhaka, at 10:30 am. . . He was flown to Sylhet at about 1:08 pm,” his spouse Professor Yesmeen Huq told BSS this afternoon.

“Prof Zafar Iqbal is quite OK right now,” added Huq, who is also professor at SUST.

Landing at the Osmani International Airport here, Prof Iqbal talked to journalists about different issues of the attack. “I have no grievances to anybody . . . I pardoned the attackers,” Iqbal said.

“And we have to take proper initiatives so that no boy further gets involved in such act,” he continued.

Zafar Iqbal, a professor of the Computer Science and Engineering Department of SUST, also said, “The world is so beautiful. It’s possible to do many good things for this planet. I really feel sorry for those who have chosen the wrong path.” He also urged new generation not to choose any wrong way and work unitedly to build a beautiful Bangladesh.

Earlier, SUST Vice-Chancellor Prof Farid Uddin Ahmed and senior professors and students welcomed him at Osmani International Airport. Later, he went to the campus amid intensified security measures.

Professor Iqbal also spoke at a rally on the SUST campus where he was come under knife attack on March 3. The SUST VC, his wife, some senior professors and students also took part in the rally.

In his speech, Prof Iqbal expressed his gratitude to teachers, students and all concerned, who raise strong protest against the attack on him.
