Hasan urges BNP to play supportive role in Bangladesh’s politics

DHAKA, March 28, 2019 (BSS)- Awami League Publicity and Publication Secretary Dr Hasan Mahmud today urged BNP to play a supportive role in Bangladesh’s politics to make democracy stronger shunning the path of impeding democracy.

“I urge BNP to stop the ill efforts of confusing the countrymen by spreading falsehood and to play a supportive role instead in Bangladesh’s politics,” he told at a press conference held at AL president’s political office in city’s Dhanmondi.

Hasan, also the information minister, said BNP leaders including Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir and Rizvi Ahmed, through press conferences, always claimed that Begum Khaleda Zia’s health condition is deteriorating day by day.

The minister said, “She (Begum Zia) is a convicted prisoner in graft charges, not a political prisoner. But, every facility is being given to her. She gets her house maid. Everyday a doctor visits her in the jail for check-up. A physiotherapist and a nurse have been appointed for her. Besides, the treatment of Begum Zia is going on at Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujib Medical University (BSMMU)… You know that Awami League General Secretary Obaidul Quader was also admitted to BSMMU and world famous physician Dr Devi Shethi appreciated its treatment.”

Pointing to an allegation of Mirza Fakhrul, the minister said, “The jail authority tried to shift Begum Zia to BSMMU for check up. And two cabins were booked for her. But she refused to receive treatment there . . . What can the jail authority or the government do on this issue?.”

Hasan urged the BNP leaders not to do ill politics and resort to falsehood over Begum Khaleda Zia’s health.

He said there is no scope to spread confusions among the common people about Begum Zia’s health.

Fakhrul’s allegation that there is no democracy in the country, Hasan said Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina is the only person who restored democracy braving death fear. On the hand, BNP tried to impede democracy in the name of movement, he added.

The AL leader said BNP killed people by throwing petrol bombs and it now seems ludicrous when the party highly talks about democracy. “The founder of BNP Ziaur Rahman captured the power through arms… he killed hundreds armed forces personnel to capture the state power. And Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir is the secretary general of this party. What kind of democracy prevailed in the country when Ziaur Rahman was in power,” he questioned.

Hasan urged the BNP leaders to do politics for the betterment of the common people and not to resort to falsehood to confuse.

AL deputy office secretary Barrister Biplob Barua and other central leaders were present at the press conference.
