Police Memorial Day observed
DHAKA, March 1, 2018 (BSS) – The second Police Memorial Day was observed in the country today recalling with gratitude the contribution of the policemen, who were killed on duty.
The day has been observed centrally in Dhaka and at all police units nationwide since March 1, 2017.
Marking the day, the police force gave recognition to 130 policemen killed on duty last year providing their family with crest, money and honorary award in respect to their contribution. A total of 1267 policemen have sacrificed their lives while performing their duties in the last 26 years.
After placing floral wreaths at the monument set up at Police Staff College, Mirpur, Home Minister Asaduzzaman Khan spoke as chief guest at a function. Speaking on the occasion, he said, “We are ever grateful to the policemen who sacrificed their lives while discharging their duties to maintain the law and order and their sacrifice have made the police force proud.”
In reply to a question about taking action against Deputy Inspector General (DIG) of police Mizanur Rahman for his suspected involvement in assaulting a women, he said, “Probe report against DIG Mizan has already been submitted to the Police Headquarters and we will take action against him soon after getting recommendation of his punishment (from the police).”
Speaking on the occasion, Home Secretary of Public Security Division, Mostofa Kamal Uddin recalled the contribution of the policemen with due respect.
Recalling the contribution of the policemen with respect, Inspector General of Police (IGP) Dr Mohammad Javed Patwary said, “The sacrifices of the policemen has made the force proud and a significant number of police personnel gave away their lives in their endeavor to protect the country which the police force will recall forever with profound respect.”
The police chief assured the family members of the policemen killed on-duty of giving all sorts of assistances in the days to come.
Among others, Additional IGP (admin) Md Mokhlesur Rahman, director general of RAB Benazir Ahmed, and Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) commissioner Asaduzzaman Miah, were present on the occasion.
