CHATTOGRAM, March 1, 2019 (BSS) – Information Minister Dr Hasan Mahmud
today described BNP’s emergence as a party with political leftovers saying,
its founder slain president Ziaur Rahman floated the platform with “political
crows”.
“Zia attracted them scattering leftovers of political power to float BNP .
. . he did it the way the food leftovers attract crows,” he told newsmen after
joining a Bangladesh Manobadiker Council seminar on child rights at
Shilphakala academy in the port city here.
Hasan, who is also Awami League’s publicity and publication secretary,
added that in the process of forming BNP, Zia actually assassinated the
democracy to rehabilitate war criminals and paving ways for anti-independence
forces to return to politics.
His comments came as his attention was drawn to Rizvi Ahmed’s comments
about the just concluded Dhaka North City Corporation election which he called
a manipulated one keeping voters away.
“He (Rizvi) made the comment in view of BNP’s shameful defeat in December
30 national elections,” Hasan said.
He said BNP did not take part in the DNCC election as they lost people
support and sensed its defeat in the mayoral polls as well despite congenial
atmosphere when over 32 percent voters exercised their voting rights defying
bad weather.
Hasan said BNP’s popularity crashed down to its lowest ebb for its negative
politics and it was proved in the last parliamentary elections.
“There is no alternative to the leadership of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina
as the country has been changed in the past 10 years under her leadership,” he
said.
Hasan said after its graduation as the LDC, Bangladesh was now being
upgraded as to a middle income country.
Bangladesh Manobidekar council, Chattogram Jilla unit president Sayed
Nazrul Islam chaired the function while Vice Chancellor of Chattogram
University Prof Dr Iftakher Uddin Chowdhury addressed the seminar as the main
speaker.
The minister urged all to put in their efforts to children’s addiction to
smart phones saying this habit barred them from reading books or visiting
libraries.
“The habit must change,” he said.
President of Chattogram Union of Journalists Nazim Uddin Shyamol, Prof
Hasina Zakaria Bela, Madhuri Benerzi among others addressed the function.
